On December 23, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs A. Elizabeth Jones met with Ambassadors from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan to discuss future cooperation between the United States and GUUAM. At the meeting, both sides agreed to the next steps for a joint U.S.-GUUAM project on trade and transportation facilitation and law enforcement.

On May 24, 2003 in Tbilisi, Georgia, the GUUAM Countries and the United States continued their dialogue on their common goals of combating terrorism, transnational crime, enhancing border security and customs control and encouraging trade at the Third Meeting of the Council of Ministers for Foreign Affairs of GUUAM Countries.
